In a previous life, my daily news beat included covering the Hindu American Foundation, which puts out an annual report on rights abuses commited against Hindus worldwide.
The nonprofit group was cofounded by a Bay Area E.R. doctor and now is based near Washington, D.C., to raise political awareness of the struggles of the Hindu diaspora.
The latest report on 2008 troubles focuses on nine countries, including Malaysia.
I enjoyed covering the coalescing of a local expat protest movement against Malaysia's ethnic favoritism, which at the time centered on a Yahoo chat group called Bay Area Malaysian Indians.
